This course could mean you top up your existing knowledge of Public Health to a BSc degree, helping you to help others.
This course is for nurses and health workers who have an interest in improving patient health or in issues related to the wider arena of Public Health.
The course aims to meet the needs of primary care, secondary care and independent sector nurses and paramedics who are interested in promoting health to prevent disease, or in supporting patients to change their health behaviours to avoid ill health or cope with or avoid chronic health problems, or to cope with disease associated with poverty.
An award-winning university, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible experience. We continue to invest in both our facilities and our innovative approach to education. Our students benefit from industry-relevant teaching, and resources and support designed to help them succeed. These range from our modern library and computing facilities to dedicated careers advice and our impressive Students’ Union activities.
Designed for nurses and health workers who would like to boost their qualifications to graduate level, this course is popular with international students who have gone on to apply for graduate level jobs in their home country.

Research and Evidence Based Practice
Reviewing Research for Professional Practice
The Scope of Public Health
Coventry University has climbed the rankings again to 12th in the UK Guardian University Guide 2018
While this course offers a non-clinical route to a BSc degree with honours and as such does not require professional registration with professional bodies (such as the UK Health Professions Council or the Nursing and Midwifery Council) it is popular with UK health professionals.
Students also share learning in most of the modules with home students who are currently in practice as health professionals such as paramedics, midwives and nurses.
There are no clinically based placements; however, you do study alongside professionally-qualified home students which encourages two-way learning amongst peers.
This course recognises the need to underpin Public Health Studies with a sound knowledge of research appreciation and evidence based practice. Two mandatory modules give prominence to research and evidence based practice in public health studies. In addition, two further mandatory modules are taken in public health and health promotion.
Students may particularly wish to pursue a personal or professional interest as part of the course and they can focus on their interest within a work-related learning module.
A wide variety of engaging teaching and learning approaches will be used (in addition to traditional lectures) including:
Did you know we help more students travel internationally than any other UK university according to data from the experts in higher education data and analysis, HESA?
In 2015/16, we were able to provide a total of 2101 experiences abroad that lasted at least five days, 76% of which were our own organised trips for undergraduates and 23% from postgraduate travel. Much of this travel is made possible through our Global Leaders Programme, which enables students to prepare for the challenges of the global employment market, as well as strengthening and developing their broader personal and professional skills.
